Tratt Dataset

Date: Thu, 26 Aug 1999 14:05:50 -0700
From: "David M. Tratt" <David.M.Tratt@jpl.nasa.gov>

JPL Laser Remote Sensing Group backscatter lidar facility, Pasadena, Calif.

Location: 34:11:54N, 118:10:29W, 390m MSL.

Database starting date: July 1984.

Continuity: Nominally weekly.

The JPL ground-based multiyear archive of [predominantly] clear-air lidar backscatter was acquired primarily at the 10.6-micron wavelength. Prior to 1992 the operating wavelength was alternated between 10.6- and 9.25 microns. The long wavelength of this dataset favors tropospheric aerosol backscatter, although the 1991 Pinatubo stratospheric perturbation was clearly observed and tracked. The dataset is currently undergoing preparation for general external availability; selected subsets of data can be provided on request.

A JPL lidar instrument also participated in the GLOBE '89 and '90 airborne Pacific survey campaigns. 9.25-micron backscatter profiles obtained during this program can be requested on CD-ROM.
